Silverhill Gets New Rubber:
After many years of 'putting up' with the old sand school along with the constant
repairs required (and the all too familiar warning cone!), Vicky finally took the
plunge and installed a new rubber surface in the school at the end of July
Already a number of people have been practising jumping just to test the new "bounce" and
good comments about the surface come from left and right. Needless to say Vicky is pleased
as punch (but now very, very poor!) and all the yard horses are delighted!
Please note that any non-liveries wishing to use the new school can do so at a cost of £10
per hour (and equally, for non-liveries the jumping field is now charged out at £10 per hour
per horse).
Delilah Enjoying Retirement:
Delilah did very well during the winter, she's back to looking pregnant
again now!
We had to put the horses in the corrals recently after worming
and Delilah was so annoyed to be taken off the grass she jumped over the
post and rail fence and took herself back off to the field!!! I was very
impressed she could still jump so high!
Her feet are looking really good, no trouble at all. She's been on paddocks
with the smallest amount of grass possible but I think she just sees grass across
the valley and puts on weight!
Fairlawn Orphans Come To Stay:
Just like Minty and Saucy who came to stay at Silverhill Stables in 2007,
we welcomed a new flock of five orphaned lambs from the Fairlawn Estate to
the yard on Friday the 24th April.
However, shortly, five will become six when Trio finally comes to join us:
sadly he was too weak to come along with everyone else. As the story goes
he was one of triplets and just left in a field by his mother, fortunately
he was found in time!
As for the five, named after biscuits, Bourbon, Garibaldi, Dodger, Custard and Digestive,
they have settled in fine and Vicky is coping well with the morning, lunch and
evening feeds. Say hello to them when you're next on the yard!
Fire Has A Little Wonky:
After what has seemed an eternity, Fire (owned by Kate) has finally
had her foal. Unfortunately, partner Simon was first to get in on the
act as far as names were concerned and so 'Wonky' it was!
Fire is proving to be a fantastic mother and the foal is never far from
her side. Born on the 22nd April at 2.40am, Wonky looks just like his
mother did when she was a foal, chances are he'll grow up to be a handsome
lad indeed.
Kate is not entirely sure but by all accounts plans are to keep Wonky but with
Fire proving to be such a good mother then it's unlikely that Wonky will
be her last foal. Who knows, Wonky could be a future livery at Silverhill!
